The Dorset Coast is one of the UK's best known and
best loved coastlines and the environmental importance
of the coastline is nationally and internationally recognised.
Most of the 300km of coastline is formally designated
as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the area
from Studland Bay to Lyme Regis forms part of the World
Heritage Site.
The Dorset Coast Digital Archive reflects the cultural
heritage, natural environment and local histories of the Dorset coastline through its database of 20,000 items and its
learning packages covering fourteen related topics. The
Archive provides diverse potential ranging from comparison
of maps from different historical periods to viewing
Victorian postcards to a Timeline snapshot of the archive.
Dorset Coast Digital Archive has been accepted as a pilot site for the Sense of Place People’s Network Discover Service.
